Matthew Pearl began his appraisal career at Pacific Appraisal Consultants, Inc. in Bakersfield, CA, shortly after graduating with a BA in Economics from UCLA. He was a 4-year letterman on the baseball team at UCLA and also held a professional baseball career prior to completing his degree (St. Louis Cardinals). While in Bakersfield (2003- 2010), Matthew gained extensive appraisal experience during this turbulent and unstable time period in real estate. The types of appraisal work completed at Pacific Appraisal Consultants, Inc. included single-family homes, condominiums, 2-4 unit properties, manufactured homes, and vacant land. From 2008-2010, Matthew completed hundreds of REO (foreclosure) appraisals for Fannie Mae & Freddie Mac due to that period’s financial crisis.

In 2010, Matthew began business under the name of Pearl Appraisals (“The San Diego Appraiser”) in San Diego, CA. Pearl Appraisals services an area that encompasses all of San Diego County, including the high-end communities of La Jolla, Del Mar, Rancho Santa Fe, Point Loma, Mission Hills, as well as all of the North County coastal communities. In addition to working with mortgages, Pearl Appraisals specializes in appraisals for divorce settlements, estates, bankruptcy, pre-sale, pre-purchase, REO, investment consultation, and real estate litigation. Matthew is also a candidate for designation in the San Diego Chapter of the Appraisal Institute. .
